Barbara Šalamounová (CZE)
Artist, illustrator
Her work ranges from film puppets to book and magazine illustration, 3D digital animation, 2D cartoons and comics. Barbara studied Animated film at The Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, followed by 3D digital animation in postgraduate studies at the German University Burg Giebichenstein in Halle (Saale).
Barbara is the founder of the first Czech university studio for teaching comics, which she led for 10 years at the Faculty of Design and Art of Ladislav Sutnar, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. In 2015, she received the title of associate professor, and in 2019 she returned to freelance work. She has nurtured two decades of quality new artists who have established themselves well in the field of comics and illustration. One of them currently heads this studio.
Since 2022, Barbara has been managing the artistic estate of her parents, Jiri and Eva Natus-Šalamoun. In 2024, she established the Šalamounovi Foundation.
