UniverCity OSTRAVA!!!
20. 7. 2024 17:00 - 18:00

World architecture plays a fundamentally important role in the urban environment. Its influence can be seen not only in the appearance of buildings and streets, but also in how cities function and how people perceive them. Well-designed architecture can help create a pleasant environment that attracts local people and visitors. This is the path that Ostrava is currently taking.
The world-renowned architect Eva Jiřičná will appear at the Colours of Ostrava festival to present her design for the reconstruction of the “skyscraper” on Ostrčilova Street in the city centre. She will also speak about how world architecture influences the way cities function. Her presentation at the Univercity Stage – Meltingpot will be a fascinating demonstration of how design can be harmoniously integrated with functionality and the urban environment.
Eva Jiřičná is the holder of numerous prestigious awards, including the Order of the British Empire (in the class ‘Commander’ – CBE). Her most recent accolade is the Jane Drew Prize, which was awarded in recognition of her contribution to diversity and inclusiveness in architecture. Jiřičná has worked on numerous designs for world architecture, including interiors; she is known as the “First Lady” of glass and metal. Yet despite her global renown, she remains down-to-earth and modest, and her elegance and sense of humour are always enchanting.
Eva Jiřičná’s latest project – the reconstruction of the “skyscraper” on Ostrava’s Ostrčilova Street – represents a major milestone in the city’s development. It also demonstrates Jiřičná’s strong focus on aesthetics, functionality and harmonious integration into the urban environment.
Don’t miss her talk, which will be followed by a discussion. Eva Jiřičná will be accompanied on the podium by Hana Tichánková, Ostrava’s Deputy Mayor with responsibility for strategic development.
