Since 1990 he has been a freelance cartoonist, regularly contributing to the daily newspaper Právo and the weekly newspaper Reporter. His first joke was published in 1987 in the daily newspaper Práce and in 1989 in Dikobarz. In the past, his drawings could be seen in the newspapers Lidové noviny, Hospodářské noviny and MF Dnes. In 2010, he received the Journalist Award for Caricature.
Mirek graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University and took a course in figure drawing with Ass. Professor Boris Jirků at the University of Applied Arts. In addition to drawing, he has also been painting pictures for many years. He has had a number of solo and joint exhibitions, especially with the Polykalo group. He works with watercolour, acrylics, oil and pastel.
Since 2009 he has also been performing as a singer-songwriter, accompanying himself on accordion, guitar, ukulele and the mouth organ. He plays both alone and in a band with musicians Vlastimil Konopiský, Tomáš Görtler, Petr Mikeš and Petr Tichý. Actor and musician Vladimír Javorský is also an occasional guest. They have recorded several albums together.
Mirek is married to Kateřina and has two sons.
