He has been in the media throughout his working career. Since April 1, 2020, he has been the director of the television studio in Ostrava.
Miroslav Karas is a graduate of Charles University in Prague, where he studied at the Faculty of Journalism. From 1985 he worked at the Czechoslovak Radio in the newsroom for children. It didn't take long before he moved to the foreign newsroom, and became a Polish reporter. Although he exchanged Czechoslovak – later Czech Radio for Czech Television, he remained faithful to the work as a foreign reporter. He brought news not only from Poland, but also traveled to the countries of the former Soviet Union, especially Ukraine, the Baltic countries and Belarus. From 2012 until 2020, with a short break, he commented on events in Russia. During his many years of work in Russia, he witnessed many crucial moments of modern Russian history. He described what it's like to be a journalist in a country that doesn't like freedom of speech in his book A odkud bych asi tak byl.
