Michal Kunes is the Program Manager of the European Space Agency’s Business Incubation Centre Czech Republic (ESA BIC Czech Republic) operated by the Business and Investment Development Agency CzechInvest.
Michal has a background in business and aerospace engineering and has worked in the space industry since 2012. As ESA BIC Program Manager, he is responsible for managing the entire program with offices in Prague and Brno. Previously, he was a consultant at the Czech Space Office. He is a member of several international space organizations such as the Space Generation Advisory Council and the International Astronautical Federation. Michal was the only Czech so far to receive the Young Space Leader award at the International Astronautical Congress in Bremen in 2018.
ESA BIC Czech Republic is part of the ESA Commercialisation Gateway, the world’s largest space incubation network. It consists of 29 incubation centres in 20 European countries. ESA BIC Czech Republic is looking for startups and projects that re-purpose existing space technologies on the non-space markets or introduce innovative non-space technologies to the space market. Since its founding in 2016, it has selected and incubated 51 space startups. Each of them receives financial support for development, technical, business and marketing support, becomes part of the ESA BIC community, and much more.
