Luděk Niedermayer is an avid swimmer and a fan of modern technology or climate-friendly solutions.
He graduated in Operations Research and Systems Theory at the Faculty of Science of Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Brno (now Masaryk University), where he also worked briefly as a researcher. He established himself as a leading Czech and international economic expert, and at the age of 29 he became (at that time) the youngest member of the Banking Council of the Czech National Bank (CNB) and was later appointed its Deputy Governor (twice) by Václav Havel. Subsequently, he worked as a director at Deloitte ČR.
He also entered politics at the instigation of Karel Schwarzenberg and in 2014 successfully ran as a non-party candidate for TOP 09/STAN in the European Parliament (EP) elections. He joined TOP 09 in 2017 and defended his mandate as an MEP in the 2019 elections, when he received the most preferential votes.
In the European Parliament, Luděk mainly deals with economic, energy and environmental issues. He is a strong supporter of Europeanism and of economically and climate responsible policies that take into account the needs of vulnerable people. Luděk Niedermayer is also an enthusiastic promoter of clean energy and transport, and uses only public transport or a battery-powered car. He bases his decisions on data and analysis rather than to score political points.
